I cannot help but note that when Mr George Yeo shared his view about how China uses it's nuclear arsenal as a form of defence at 13min30sec mark, and when answering the question from the floor at 53min00sec mark, the pronouns he used were we / us when referring to China, and they / them when referring to the US. This didnt happen often in this video, he managed to used appropriate pronouns most times, but these 2 times those pronouns one may mistake that he was speaking as though he is a retired China foreign minister. Very striking. I listen to speeches by our current political leaders, by retired diplomats such as Ms Chan HC, Mr Kausikan and Mr Mahbubani, and I have not heard anyone else use words to represent themselves as someone from the PRC or the USA or other nations other than Singapore. Hence at the end of the video, I had to remind himself what sort of lens he sees the world with and consider his views expressed here accordingly.

Is it really helpful to consult a member of a US think tank "dedicated to finding ways to sustain American prominence and prosperity as a force for good in the world" in an objective discussion about ASEAN "centrality"? He is just a propaganda mouthpiece for the US deep state. Unfortunately, Sarah's audio is not good. As for the YII institute spokesperson, the message seems to be that the value of ASEAN is synonymous with its assimilation of Western values, reflecting Singapore's heavily Western leaning approach, also not the most impartial guest for discussing ASEAN as a whole.

10:40 China is homogeneous. 90% Han. 25:35 Under communism, money is useless-because nothing is in the shops. What shops you can go to are based on pecking order & class. 29:34 It's in China's interest to grow in a peaceful environment. If you're engaged in wars or conflicts, you won't grow. 28:50 If you want a country to progress, you must carry the people with you at all levels. China did and shared misery, but now the prosperity is not shared equally. The internal problem is the most important to resolve. 32:00 Grandchildren never listen to grandfathers. 40:00 Taiwanese messy, volatile, rambunctious democracy vs. Singapore's planned economy. 47:25 You either have a revolution by consent (constitutionally), or a revolution by violence. If all possibilities are blocked, expect violence. Africa example. 53:20 When looking for a political leader, wants to see the passion, capacity, integrity, and the ability to persuade.
